Black Adam made more money at the box office on its first day in India even than a few recent Bollywood movies, but it still fell short of Marvel blockbusters like Spider-Man: No Way Home.
One day before its worldwide release on October 21, the Dwayne Johnson-starring film Black Adam was released in India on Thursday. Despite receiving mediocre reviews upon release, the movie managed to have a respectable opening weekend at the box office. Despite having lesser box office receipts than other recent Marvel blockbusters, Doctor G and Goodbye rank higher than several recent Bollywood movies.
Black Adam made ₹6 crore on Thursday in India, according to trade sources. The amount is significantly greater than the opening day receipts for Doctor G (Ayushmann Khurrana, ₹3.8 crore) and Goodbye (Amitabh Bachchan, less than ₹1 crore). It surpasses the previous significant DC film, The Batman, which debuted in March and brought in ₹5.75 crore in India.
The numbers, meanwhile, are insignificant in light of recent box office success for some Marvel Cinematic Universe productions. In India, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which debuted in May, made ₹27.50 crore on its first day. With an astounding opening day gross of ₹32 crore, Spider-Man: No Way Home broke the epidemic period record for Hollywood movies in India. Compared to DC, Marvel is reportedly more popular in India, according to industry sources. In addition, Black Adam is a character who is not well recognised in the nation.
Teth Adam, an antihero from DC Comics, has a backstory that is told in Black Adam. The figure has opposed both Shazam and Superman in comic books. Within the DC Extended Universe, the movie takes place (DCEU). Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Shahi, Noah Centino, Aldis Hodge, and Jaume Collet-Serra also appear in the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed movie. In cameo appearances, numerous actors from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) appear in the movie, including Henry Cavill as Superman, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Djimon Hounsou as Shazam.
